Seattle Scrapbook

OK, I redid a few things. Now you can click on the layouts to see larger versions -- I just figured out how to do that in this blog program.

Gina through the years. Gayle made these masks for everyone to wear for the big surprise, a little "this is your life" for Gina. I thought they were a hoot. Gayle's boys thought the baby mask was creepy on an adult. They were right. Wasn't Gina the cutest first-grader ever? And who can believe the youngest Breukelman is THIRTY?!?

Pages 4&5

We all gave Gina socks -- thirty pairs. Why? One Christmas, Gina happened to get a bunch of socks. Her reaction was, well, less than ecstatic. A lot less. The socks were silly, but Gina wore them all weekend.

One of Gina's favorite restaurants in Tacoma. Easy to see why that is -- it was wonderful. Everyone's meal was perfect. We kept passing extras to Greg & Mom. Mom was so tired, her head was practically in the last plate of pasta - but I think she still ate a bunch of it. This picture is a little blurry. I think some of us were bleary-eyed -- too much wine, too little sleep -- so the photographer/restaurant owner captured the moment perfectly.

Tacoma is home to Dale Chihuly, a world-renowned glass artist. This bridge houses Chihuly's art. The colors are amazing. The rock-candy-esque towers are part of the Museum of Glass.

First on Saturday morning, we visited Gina & Frank's cute, cute home. Then Gina & Frank took us on a walking tour of downtown Tacoma, including this pier and Union Station.

All sorts of funny things happened on this side trip:
--the conductor's questionable "facts"
--the high elevation
--the rolling of the conductor's eyes
--hyper dad man - "Come to Daddy!"
--2 words: Burger Shack
--no actual view of Mt. Ranier

Sunday morning we went to the famous Seattle market. Yep, we saw them throw fish. The flowers were the msot amazing product, I thought - gorgeous, fresh flowers for pennies. Natalie bought some; we all thought they'd be a pain to transport home, but she proved us wrong. Gayle picked up a few small things, like bookmarks and lotion. Then on to the Mariners game!

Pages 14&15

In remembrance of the September 11 terrorist attacks, there was a ceremony before the game. Local police officers held a huge flag while bagpipes played "Amazing Grace." Meaningful and touching, especially how careful the officers were in not letting the flag touch the ground.

The Mariners game was a blast. The Mariners lost (I think) but it was more about the atmosphere than the competition. Great food at Safeco Field - fish & chips, garlic fries, kettle corn, clam chowder, beer of course. Bummer for Gina, though - they were sold out of veggie dogs. We had great seats, and the Moose hung out for a while in our section. Funniest story happened after the game - Greg almost bought a t-shirt for each of his daughters that said Seattle Marijuaners or something of the sort.

Pages 16&17

The ferry ride was a great end to our trip. The sun was out, the sky was clear. We had great views of the Seattle skyline (note the Space Needle in the pictures) and even saw Mt. Ranier. There's always something special about being on water.

I hope Gina had a great 30th birthday. I love her so much - September 12, 2005.
